Coins and Medals on Display at the Leominster Public Library
New and rarely seen, antique medals, tokens, and currency from the Rebecca Salisbury Collection. From the extensive collection donated to the Leominster Public Museum in 1893, a selection of commemorative medals representing Revolutionary War heroes, the first Presidents, famous figures of history, along with tokens from historical events and social causes.
The collection was bequeathed by Miss Rebecca Salisbury, granddaughter of Reverend Francis Gardner, Leominster’s second minister. After marrying the nephew of Stephen Salisbury of Worcester, Rebecca lived in Boston for many years. One of her acquaintances was Anna Powell Jones. Both women shared an interest in collecting coins and medals. Jones left her collection to Rebecca in her will, and several of the items in the collection are nearly 200 years old!
