Shirley Temple Exhibit

We enjoyed a “standing room only” crowd at the Shirley Exhibit on Sunday and count it as one of our most successful displays. The exhibit will run until December so stop in and prepare to be amazed at the scope of items on board. We’ll be happy to show you around.

Many thanks to Diane Sanabria for her skilled verbal portrait of Leominster in the depression. Shirley Temple’s movies lifted the spirits of so many people, in Leominster and throughout the country. Although times were hard for everyone, even the President was quoted as saying, “As long as we have Shirley Temple, we’ll be alright.”

Speaker Melissa Tonnessen’s warm and fact-filled stories told us more than we ever knew about the life and movies of the child star. She also brought several actual movie costumes worn by the little girl. Melissa has met Shirley Temple’s children and has visited her home! A group of members of “Shirley’s Army” attended from near and far.

Many, many thanks to Nancy Bilotta for sharing her remarkable collection of Shirley Temple memorabilia.
