More About Us

The Field School

The Leominster Historical Society is housed at the old Field School, at 17 School Street, in Leominster, Massachusetts, which was constructed in 1870. The Field School, not used for regular school classes since 1955, was going to be demolished, when Mrs. Eva Wheeler, a former teacher at the Field School, and recent president of the society, and many members, campaigned to save the building. On July 28, 1969, the building was purchased from the City of Leominster by the society for one dollar.

The first floor includes the Louise I. Doyle Room and the Elizabeth M. Lincoln Room, which are used to display museum artifacts and exhibits that illustrate and bring the history of Leominster to life. Students and visitors are welcome to tour the exhibits free of charge every Tuesday and Saturday morning, from 9-12. The second floor features the research room, with information and photographs as well as the society’s computer system. The storage room contains the museum artifacts, pictures, maps, and other memorabilia from life in Leominster throughout its long history.

Staff and Volunteers

Our volunteers perform the daily tasks that keep the society running. We are grateful to all our volunteers, including:
